The slope of a golf course determines the difficulty for a particular course for the bogey golfer as compareed to the scratch golfer. It is to be noted for each official round the  amateur player plays, the amateur players golf handicap differential is processed or calculated using the golf handicap calculator. The handicap index is also used for calculating the amateur players performance  in different rounds of the game.

The golf handicap is also used to determine on which of the holes a particular player or a team has been granted extra strokes. These are then finally used for calculating the net score from the different number of strokes that has been actually played. The number of strokes that can be given to a player differs between the actual match play and the actual stoke play. It is to be noted that in an actual match play the players golf handicap or the teams golf handicap is distributed based on the number of holes that has to be played. With respect to stroke play the calculation procedure is similar but it is to be noted that each individual players golf handicap is used for calculating the extra strokes as opposed to the difference in two players golf handicap.
